Las Vegas Hummer Dealer Closes Its Doors

Hummer Dealership

If VH1 were to someday create a “Behind the Music” episode about the Hummer brand, the events of this week might play as its low point, when its fall from fame left it broke and friendless.; Amid news that GM is shopping the brand, one of its largest standalone dealers closed its doors Tuesday and plans to open a Smart franchise in its place.

Towbin Hummer of Las Vegas at one time epitomized the brand’s popularity - selling tricked out SUV’s in a city known for big and flashy displays of wealth. Owner Dan Towbin is himself a Hummer driver and enthusiast and touts the vehicles’ safety. But he closed the franchise for the same reasons GM is looking to jettison the brand - slowing sales and declining profits. He said he wanted to buy another GM franchise at some point, but for now is focusing on starting the Smart dealer.
