Land Rover LR4 Facelift Spied

Our spy photographers caught a facelifted version of the Land Rover LR4, providing some clues as to how Land Rover will keep its seven-seater fresh over the coming years.

The primary changes visible on this tweaked Land Rover LR4 are new headlights that have a smaller circular bulge near the grille and different angles on the inside edges. The front fascia has been restyled with solid outside lower edges, as opposed to the vented design on the current SUV, and it looks like the big round foglights have migrated from the bumper corners to the headlights themselves. The grille surround has angled edges for a more V-shaped look, and the LR4's mirrors now have a sleeker design with integrated turn signal repeaters.

Our spy shooter says that the Land Rover LR4 will also receive some mechanical changes to improve its fuel efficiency, as well as updates to its infotainment system. The latter changes could involve the addition of touch-sensitive buttons flanking the color screen, an arrangement that debuted on the new Land Rover Range Rover. Expect Land Rover to officially reveal the revised LR4 later this year.

The 2013 Land Rover LR4 continues to use a 375-hp, 5.0-liter V-8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission. It has air suspension and differentials controlled by the company's Terrain Response function to help endow the LR4 with exceptional off-road capability. The three-row interior can seat up to seven people and boasts features like a 360-degree camera, automatic high beams, heated front- and second-row seats, and dual-zone climate control. The base LR4 starts at $49,950 (including an $850 delivery charge, while the LR4 HSE costs $54,175.

The Land Rover LR4 received several equipment upgrades for the 2012 model year, including an updated touchscreen infotainment system, a new sound system, new instruments and wiper stalks, and new paint colors. At last year's New York auto show, the Land Rover LR4 also added a special Luxury Edition model with touches like a 20-inch sparkle-finish wheels, extra chrome trim, push-button start, and an 825-watt sound system. For 2013, there is a new Black Design package that bundles black wheels with gloss-black a grille, fender vents, door handles, mirrors, and badges.
