Lamborghini blew us away with the launch of its latest supercar, the Huracán, but the fun doesn’t stop there. For die-hard track junkies, the Italian automaker will introduce a Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo race car.
We previously saw a teaser image of the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo racer’s camo-clad front end, but now Lamborghini has provided a more revealing teaser video clip. By the looks of it, the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo will follow the same formula utilized on the earlier 2013 Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo. Just like the Gallardo Super Trofeo, the Huracán race car will wear slick racing tires and a bounty of aerodynamic upgrades for reduced drag, increased downforce, and improved cooling.
In the video, we can see a revised front splitter and extended spoiler, split hood scoop, modified side air vents (likely to help cool the rear brakes), and a towering rear spoiler mounted to the trunk. It’s likely that much of these aerodynamic modifications are adjustable, so racing engineers can fine-tune the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo to specific racing conditions.
The Gallardo Super Trofeo rode on the same chassis as the production Gallardo and also shared its V-10 powertrain, leading us to believe that the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo will follow suit and use the Huracán’s same 602-hp, 5.2-liter V-10 and all-wheel drive.
When European bureau chief Georg Kacher drove the 2015 Lamborghini Huracán the track and on roads in Málaga Spain, he remarked how much Lamborghinis have grown up since the first Gallardo. “Once a role model for extrovert excess…[now] totally predictable all the way to the limit, it fuses Italian karma with German efficiency.”
The Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo race car, which promises to be even crazier than the standard Huracán, debuts August 15 at the Quail Motorsports Gathering.
