Kia has been upping its game lately, and consumers have noticed, as evidenced by the automaker passing the 10 million global exports mark.
Vehicle number 10 million is a Snow White Pearl-colored Optima destined for the United States. Shipped from Pyeongtaek Port in South Korea, it’s almost appropriate that the redesigned midsize sedan gets to hoist the mantle, as it has received much acclaim in the marketplace.
Kia’s growth is paying dividends around the world. Half of those 10 million exports were shipped over the last five years, although the company has been manufacturing automobiles for more than 30 years. In Europe, the Korean automaker’s Zilina, Slovakia, production site managed to churn out 229,500 vehicles in 2010, a 52-percent increase over 2009 and plant record. The Slovakian facility is responsible for the Cee’d and Sportage.
Kia engine production in Europe also grew 31 percent to over 320,900 powerplants in 2010.
