Kia's been in the midst of a design revolution, but the designs have all come on crossovers, compact coupes, and sedans. It seems Kia's head of design, Peter Schreyer, is hankering for something more, revealing he wants to design a sports car or convertible to create some more appeal for the brand.
"I think Kia needs a [sports] car like that sooner or later," Schreyer told Automotive News, "but at the moment it's not yet the time to make any promises."
Schreyer added that Kia has no such car in the works and it's more of a pipe dream for him at the moment. Once Kia, which has experienced sales growth despite the recession, gets on "more solid footing," however, we may see Schreyer's desire come to fruition.
If Schreyer can convince Kia's top brass to do a sports car and convertible, we know he's plenty capable of delivering a stunner. Prior to taking Kia's top design post in 2006, he was with Volkswagen for 26 years where he worked on both VW and Audi vehicles including the original Audi TT.
