If you're a rally fan (or simply enjoy crazy motorsports stunts), you'll be happy to hear that Ken Block is hard at work making his Gymkhana film series into a trilogy.
Block's first two Gymkhana installments, filmed in 2008 and 2009, respectively, showcased his wild race-prepped Subaru WRX STI. Since he's since changed camps and joined Ford's rally team, Gymkhana 3 will be the first flick to showcase his latest rally weapon, the 2011 Ford Fiesta.
Admittedly, we know little about the film. The trailer, accessible on YouTube, is only 24 seconds long, and contains only 5 seconds of actual footage, all of which has the Fiesta hidden in clouds of tire smoke. We wouldn't be surprised to see Block release the full potential of his ride. Although dialed back to 330 horsepower for competition, the turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 can reportedly throw down as much as 490 horsepower.
The entire Gymkhana series has been nothing short of an Internet phenomenon. Gymkhana 1 has been viewed online no less than 20 million times, while the second instance has at least 14 million views. The videos quickly boosted Block's popularity, rendering him an American ambassador of sorts to rally racing. It's rumored that his promotion of the sport is prompting the World Rally Championship to consider adding a U.S. venue during the 2011 season.
Expect Gymkhana 3 to be at least as popular and wild as the first two installments Sadly, you'll have to wait a little while to see the finished product. The Fiesta itself will be unveiled this evening, but we've yet to receive word on when we can watch the film.
