Ken Block takes Gymkhana on World Tour, Starts This Month

Gymkhana: the temple to shredding tires, blaring exhaust notes, and four-wheel drifts through disused airport hangars. Fans of watching this hoonage, you might be in luck: Ford Racing and rally driver Ken Block announced they’re taking the art of gymkhana on the road and will start the Gymkhana World Tour later this month. The three-stop road show will make stops in Austria, the US, and Australia.

For car fans on YouTube, watching this type of hoonage is second to none. Block’s last YouTube gymkhana video, which was released in September 2010 and features him drifting a rally-spec Ford Fiesta around L’autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry in France, has attracted over 33 million views.

Each event will feature Ken Block driving his rally-prepped Fiesta around a makeshift course in front of a live audience, and each stop will showcase a different course layout of Block’s own design. Just like his videos, Block promises shredded tires, loud noises, and plenty of visual thrills.

Block will make his first appearance in Vienna, Austria on July 10, where Ford promises 30 lucky fans a chance to catch a ride in the hopped-up Fiesta. Also on sale: 43 special edition Fiestas which will be dressed up to look like the #43 Monster rally car.

He then moves to the United States, where he’ll perform in Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium on July 23, the weekend before he tries to score a three-peat at the X Games. He’ll finish his tour in Australia with a show in Melbourne at the end of August, the week before he campaigns for Ford Racing in Rally Australia.

Can’t make it? Don’t worry: in true viral fashion, Block promises to make a YouTube Gymkhana video at every stop on the way.
