Jill Lajdziak was the top executive at GM’s Saturn brand, and joined Smart when Saturn was killed off. Now, just three days after officially joining Smart USA, Lajdziak has been named president of the microcar brand.
Lajdziak officially joined Smart USA on January 1 as vice president of marketing and sales. She was promoted to president yesterday and replaces Dave Schembri. Schembri is taking a position within the Penske Automotive Group, Smart’s U.S. distributor and the second-largest dealership network in the U.S.
“Dave will transition into retail operations at Penske Automotive Group with our dealerships,” said Anthony Pordon, a Penske Automotive Group spokesman. “We haven’t slotted him into a position at one of the dealerships. We will help him become part of our retail operations group in various different capacities; it could be running a store or a group or a group of stores.”
