NEWS: Is Range Rover Working On A Sportier Sport?

Land Rover only just took the wraps off of the 2014 Range Rover Sport last month at the New York auto show, but could they be working on an even sportier sport? These spy photos suggest so.
Not much is known about this model that our shooter caught, but the larger front intakes point to an even more performance-oriented model. Right now, the 2014 Range Rover Sport is offered with two powertrain choices: a 340-hp supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 or a 510-hp supercharged 5.0-liter V-8, both mated to an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. But this prototype could herald in a range-topping Range Rover Sport – one that milks, say 550 hp from the 5.0-liter?
If that sounds familiar to you, it's because it should. Corporate partner Jaguar uses a 550-hp variant of the eight-cylinder in its high-performance XFR-S, XKR-S, and XJR models. While the XFR-S and XKR-S get outlandish aesthetic upgrades, the XJR's changes are more demure, similar to this Range Rover Sport. Despite the full camouflage, the only real change we can see on this car are the larger front air intakes and a more aggressive front spoiler; compared with the standard RR Sport, this car has lost its LED foglights and not much else. The wheels, brakes, and exhaust all look stock.
Could Land Rover be readying a hardcore Range Rover Sport? If they are, expect it to retail north of the $79,995 base price, with destination, for the top-spec 2014 Range Rover Sport Supercharged. Let us know if you think they should do it in the comments section.
