As a car enthusiast, when your parents took you to Disney World, you probably wanted to go to Epcot. Why? Well, for the General Motors-sponsored Test Track ride, of course! Well, get your inner child revved up – Disney and Chevrolet are working on revamping the octane-enthused ride as we speak.
The new ride will give park-goers "an authentic, inside-the-studio look at the actual automotive design process" through three different pieces – a design stage, a testing stage, and a production stage. We're most excited about the first stage, as patrons who visit the new Test Track will be able to design the car, truck or crossover of their dreams. (Shh, don't tell design editor Robert Cumberford!) Once the car is complete the ride commences, with the "designer" being able to ride along through the test-track shakedown all new cars go through. Hold on tight because Disney says that the ride will hit up to speeds of 65 mph on the back straight.
The design of the new on-track car that guests will ride in has been inspired by the look of the Chevrolet Volt and the Miray and EN-V concept cars. Once the test drive is over, you can choose to either race your design against others', pose for a photo shoot, or film a faux commercial.
Chevrolet will also have the Miray and EN-V concept cars on display, but has yet to commit to whether or not it will have other models littered around the Test Track Pavilion within Epcot. The updated thrill ride will open to the public on December 6, 2012 in the Epcot Theme Park of Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
