We got a glimpse of what Hyundai had up its sleeve for future tech last week when Hyundai/Kia revealed that future vehicles would employ Google Maps. The 2014 Kia Sorento SUV was announced as the first recipient of this technology. Hyundai has announced more details of its future in-car technology at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Unlike Kia, Hyundai did not disclose specific models that would receive the technology, but it's safe to assume its bread-and-butter models such as the Sonata and Santa Fe SUV would probably be among them, as well as the next-generation Genesis premium sedan.
Among the features that will be included in future Hyundai models are Siri integration with "Eyes Free" mode, which blacks out the mobile device's screen while driving, and Dragon Drive, an advanced voice-recognition system made in conjunction with Nuance software, makers of the well-known Dragon Naturally Speaking voice transcription software. Dragon Drive differs from many current systems that require drivers to input commands according to a strict keyword protocol with a more advanced recognition of conversational commands.
Future Hyundai models will also support mobile high-definition uncompressed video with up to eight audio channels to a dashboard display, while simultaneously charging the mobile device. Presumably, the dashboard video display would be disabled while the vehicle is in motion, unless technology similar to that of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is employed which makes content visible to passengers, but not to the driver.
Hyundai also promises next-generation hardware will support Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity (not 4G?) and media streaming through Pandora and Aha, as well as the currently-supported HD Radio and SiriusXM satellite radio.
