Some believe the life of magazine editors is one of non-stop fun and games, but the fact of the matter is a lot of hours and creative energy goes into delivering your monthly mailbox surprise, and giving you your daily fix of online octane. Hot Rod Associate Editor Jesse Kiser takes us on a tour of Hot Rod Magazine headquarters in sunny So Cal to show the inner workings of the oldest continuously-published automotive magazine in the country.
The tour takes a look at all the different aspects of the Hot Rod brand, which includes the magazine, Web site, video production, events such as Power Tour and Drag Week. Orchestrating and coordinating the multi-faceted madness is Editor-In-Chief David Freiburger, who seemingly never sleeps between long days at the office, and trips to various events around the country, and around the world.
Staff editors Elana Scherr, Thom Taylor, Brandan Gillogly, and Mike Finnegan help put the pieces together by proofreading stories, shooting and writing vehicle and technical features, and contributing story ideas.
Thanks to a large photo studio, and fully-equipped tech center with lifts and tools, the staff has most of what they need on-site. But the editors make sure they get a chance to get out of the office and lay down some black stripes every now and then. It is Hot Rod magazine after all…
