Hot Power Window Switches Prompt NHTSA Investigation of 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazers

The driver's side master power window switch is prompting a National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration investigation on 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUVs. The NHTSA noted a similar issue with Toyota RAV4s last week.

So far, the NHTSA has received 12 consumer complaints on 2006-2007 Trailblazers about melting or burning of the driver's side power window switch. Many of the complaints say the problem led to burning plastic door panels, fires occurring while the vehicle was in operation, or when the vehicle was unattended.

It's unclear whether 2006-2007 GMC Envoys will eventually be included in this investigation, but NHTSA has also received similar complaints for GMC Envoy owners from the same model years. It is also not yet known if the Saab 9-7X and the Buick Rainier could also be affected.

I also have a 2007 chevy trailblazer to with I came out to and had the smell of plastic. When I took it in the shop said it was the MASTER CONTROL SWITCH and they replaced it for me. This piece was 300.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only to have it happen again 6 months later and am going to throw a fit when I take my car in this time after reading this! Someone that looked at it said it is a design flaw and that the resister is pulling more current than what it can handle!!!!!!!! This should be taken care of by a CHEVY DEALER instead of out of our pockets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer LS. One Saturday, I came out to my vehicle. When I opened the driver's side door smoke was in my vehicle and I could smell something burning, smelled like plastic. I opened ALL the doors so that the smoke and smell could exit the vehicle. I eventually started my vehicle so I could wind down the windows only to find out the controls on the driver's side was NOT working. Not only could I not wind down my window, I could not move my mirror not did my door lock/unlock when I use the keyless entry OR the lock button on passenger door. I was told I needed a MASTER CONTROL SWITCH. I am currently in the process of getting this fixed. This should be on the RECALL list!
