Hot Commodity: 2012 TT RS Priced at $57,725

#Audi, #TT

Summer is here, and that means it’s time to soak up the sun and barbeque. But for Audi enthusiasts, summer fun means cruising around in the much anticipated, Quattro-equipped 2012 Audi TT RS. Those who have been waiting for the previously for-Europe-only car can now get a better idea of just how much they need to have saved up if they want to get one Stateside -- at least $57,725, including destination.

The extra two letters serve as the signature of Audi’s highest performance category for its vehicles, and the TT RS is no different. Still keeping true to its European roots, the TT RS will be powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine that belts out a substantial 360 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque, slashing its 0-60mph time to a scant 4.1 seconds.  Unlike the European model, which offers a choice between Audi’s acclaimed seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission, or a conventional six-speed manual, the U.S.-spec model will be offered only with the manual. Sorry, flappy-paddle fans.

Specific design details exclusive to the RS include a high-gloss, black diamond-patterned grille and large front air inlets.  A rear wing spoiler provides increased down force, while larger exhaust pipes and 19-inch wheels add a little more flair. For the interior there is a 3-spoke wheel, aluminum door sills with the RS logo, and RS-specific interior door handles.

Unfortunately, the TT RS coupe will not be available in open-top form which would be perfect for summer, but we can thank at least thank Audi’s Facebook fans for contributing in the push to bring the hi-po TT across the pond.
