Honda introduced a new model that goes 0-60 in four seconds and has a better power-to-weight ratio than most supercars. No, it’s not a motorcycle, and no, it’s not the next NSX. Surprise! It’s the new Mean Mower, created in concert with the company’s British Touring Car Championship partner, known as Team Dynamics.
Honda UK says the Mean Mower is the world’s fastest lawnmower, and with its estimated top speed of 135mph, it’s hard to doubt their claim.
Based on a perfectly normal Honda HF2620 Lawn Tractor, the Mean Mower has been completely rebuilt beneath the surface. In addition to utilizing the 1000cc V-twin engine from a Honda VTR Firestorm motorcycle, the Mean Machine boasts a custom tube frame chassis, along with suspension and wheels pulled from an ATV. While your average riding mower peters along with around 10hp, the Mean Mower has 109 hp, nearly 11 times that figure. Heck, this lawnmower has more power than the 2013 Honda Insight hybrid, which makes do with only 98 horsepower.
Surprisingly, the Mean Mower can still cut grass, but only at speeds at or below 15mph. That’s well short of its full performance capability, but still twice the top speed of the standard HF2620. The Mean Mower is more at home on a track, where Honda says it has reached speeds of more than 100mph with Honda Driver and reigning British Touring Car Champion Gordon Shedden behind the wheel. Theoretically, the Mean Mower is geared for 135 mph, but we’re not sure if we’d want to push our luck…
Other race components on the Honda Mean Mower include a paddle-shift six-speed transmission, a custom Cobra sports seat, a Scorpion exhaust system, and the steering rack from a Morris Minor.
Check out the video to watch the Mean Mower in action. It’s a vehicle that truly has to be seen to be believed. Sadly, as a one-off project, it can’t be purchased from a Honda Power Equipment dealer near you.
