Honda debuted a supercharged CR-Z concept at the 2012 SEMA show. The concept was created in-house by Honda Performance Development (HPD) and features a sports exhaust, performance brakes, modified suspension, new wheels and high-performance tires. Last year, HPD showed a supercharged engine made for a CR-Z at the SEMA show.
HPD didn’t provide power ratings for the supercharged CR-Z, but the turbocharged and intercooled CR-Z Hybrid R concept brought to the 2011 SEMA show was rated 200 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque.
Japanese-tuner Mugen offers a supercharged Honda CR-Z in its home market. The Honda CR-Z Mugen RZ gets a power bump from 122 hp to 154 hp (torque is increased from 128 lb-ft total output to 136 lb-ft from the engine and 58 lb-ft from the electric motor). Mugen also adds an adjustable suspension and rear wing as well as larger front brake rotors with upgraded calipers and pads.
While rumors of a force-inducted Honda CR-Z have been around since the hybrid was released, the automaker hasn’t confirmed plans for such a production-spec car at this point. Honda did, however, give the European 2013 CR-Z a power bump to 135 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque via updates to the VTEC system and ECU as well as new lithium-ion battery that replaces the nickel-metal hybrid battery. A new Plus Sport (S+) button adds 10 seconds of electric boost when the battery is more than 50 percent charged. Changes to the U.S.-spec 2013 Honda CR-Z have not yet been announced.
