No, Honda is not using a Godzilla strategy to take over. The super-sized robot is part of a celebration of Honda's 50th anniversary of U.S. operations. The company will present the five story tall replica of Honda's ASIMO humanoid robot as a float in the 120th annual Rose Parade.
Honda calls its float creation "Hats Off in Celebration." The float will contain flowers, plants and seeds that will be turned into mulch sometime after the parade has concluded. It will be joined by the Prairie View A&M University Marching Band. Some band members will ride on the float the rest will follow behind.
The parade will also have its first ever hydrogen-powered pace car the FCX Clarity. Since Honda is the official Tournament of Roses vehicles, the pace car is just one of 115 vehicles that Honda will provide for the event.
Honda's Rose Parade entries have earned 13 major awards in the past 14 years. The theme of the 120th Rose Parade is "Hats off to Entertainment." It will take place Tuesday, January 1, 2009.
