2003-2007 Honda Accord, 2007-2008 Acura TL
The Problem: Honda is expanding on an earlier recall that only affected the Acura TL. In Acura TL and Honda Accord models with a V-6 engine, power-steering hoses can deteriorate over time due to heat exposure. This can allow the power steering fluid to leak out, and if it contacts a hot engine component like the exhaust, the fluid could catch fire.
Honda says it has received at least one report of fire resulting from this problem, concerning a 2006 Honda Accord that caught fire at a dealership in June. Two years ago, Acura also recalled the 2004-2008 TSX for a similar issue.
The Fix: Honda and Acura dealers will install new heat-resistant power steering hoses for free. Honda doesn't yet have enough parts to complete the remedy for the affected Accord models, but expects the new hoses will be ready by early 2013.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 52,615 Acura TLs, and 573,147 Honda Accords
