Honda Accord, Nissan Altima Can’t Catch Toyota Camry in November Midsize Sales

Proving consistency is key when it comes to the midsize sedan sales race, the top three performers from the past two months were again on top in November. Not surprisingly, the Toyota Camry still occupies the number-one spot, with the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima relegated to second and third place, respectively. The Hyundai Sonata’s sales were good enough to make it the fourth best-selling midsizer, while the new Ford Fusion made a slight comeback landing in fifth place.

The Camry captured 28,765 sales in November, with runner-up Honda Accord a couple thousand units shy of that number at 26,248 sales -- up substantially from the 14,355 units sold in November 2011. Though Honda has been closing the gap between its Japanese rival, the Camry seems untouchable in year-to-date sales with 373,479 units sold through November compared to Accord’s 302,444 sales. With 20,305 sales, the Nissan Altima trails behind the two leaders, but is still a top player in the midsize game. The Hyundai Sonata sold 17,660 units in November, maintaining its fourth-place position for the third straight month.

Recovering from a disappointing September and October, the Ford Fusion has regained sales momentum thanks to the new 2013 model, which went on sale earlier in the fall. In November, 15,125 new Fusions were sold. Rounding out the rest of the top 10 is the Kia Optima, Volkswagen Passat, Chevrolet Malibu, Chrysler 200, and Dodge Avenger, which land in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth place, respectively. With Camry’s dominating lead, and just one more month left in the year, it seems Toyota will keep the midsize crown for 2012.
