Holy Hennessey: Hennessey Performance Readies 725- and 1120-hp SRT Viper

#SRT, #Viper

The 2013 SRT Viper has a 8.4-liter V-10 engine that makes 640 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most powerful naturally aspirated engines on the road today. But a small subset of Viper fans will undoubtedly need more. And they’ll be happy to know that American tuning house Hennessey Performance is preparing two new upgrade kits, one of which will nearly double the snake's power output.

Production, customer-ready versions of the 2013 SRT Viper and Viper GTS haven't even seen the light of day, but Hennessey took to its website this week to show off some new ideas on how it will pump the mighty supercar up beyond its stock form. According to Hennessy, it plans on offering two different packages, the Venom 700R, and Venom 1000.

Despite being called the 700R, the first upgrade package tweaks the V-10 engine up to 725 hp and 695 lb-ft of torque, without using any form of forced induction. Hennessey tweaks numerous things like the cylinder heads, intake system, and exhaust system and catalytic converters for maximum airflow. Engineers then tweak the SRT Viper's ECU to harness the new power, and add a couple of floormats and badges to complete the changes. Buyers can also opt to add an upgraded coilover suspension system, rear differential cooler, and plenty of carbon fiber exterior trim pieces. Racers will also want to fork over the money for an on-board fire extinguisher, rollcage, and a set of five-point racing harnesses. Those harnesses might come in handy, because the Venom 700R can allegedly hit 60 mph in 3.1 seconds, turn the quarter mile in 10.7 seconds, and hit a top speed of 216 mph.

Need more? Try the Venom 1000. This program will add forged rods and pistons, two turbochargers, an air-to-air intercooler, and all sorts of upgraded intake and exhaust system parts. Final power output is listed at a scarcely believable 1120 hp and 1092 lb-ft of torque, which should be enough to hurdle the Viper to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, and through the quarter-mile trap in 9.7 seconds. Top speed, meanwhile, isn't listed--a foreboding sign that this car is ridiculously fast. The 1000 has the same optional exterior mods as the 700, so we'd recommend ordering your 1000 with the optional VenomAerorear racing wing to keep the Viper from leaving the ground at 200+ mph.

Pricing isn't yet confirmed, but expect the final bill to be many, many thousands of dollars on top of the SRT Viper's nearly $100,000 base price.
