Crikey: Australian V8 Supercar Series May Race in Texas

Race fans, rejoice! Apart from major motorsports events like Formula 1 and NASCAR that are celebrated in the U.S., another class of racing is coming from the Land Down Under and is getting ready to take flight in a major U.S. city. If you don’t already know who V8 Supercar superstar Shane Van Gisbergen is, you will know soon enough.

The V8 Supercars Series and the Circuit of Americas is coming to the U.S. and making its first home in Austin, Texas, thanks in part to a five-year agreement Texas Governor Rick Perry and Queensland Premier Anna Bligh made very recently.

Texas has been busy making agreements to host major motorsports competitions like Formula 1, MotoGP and NASCAR, but is also getting its share in hosting major sports events for the NFL, NBA, and USTA. The famed Australian V8 series is just another one added to the list, and the state is hoping the flurry of fans attending these events will help boost its economy.

The V8 Supercars series is huge in the Land Down Under, spreading to New Zealand and the Middle East, but also continuing to quickly gain popularity around the world. The cars in the V8 series feature modified versions of the Ford Falcon and its archrival, the Holden Commodore—the two most popular Aussie passenger cars—battle it out on the track.

A brand new facility will serve as the battlegrounds for the V8 Supercars. Currently under construction is the Circuit of Americas, a Grand Prix facility in Austin, where it will also host the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in 2012, and the MotoGP championship in 2013 under a 10-year agreement.

Not to worry—even if you can’t make it to Austin, SPEED will catch every moment of the two 124 mile races so you can watch it live and in-full throughout North and South America.

Think Australia should tell America to go and get ( well you know) they are a bunch of pricks for example HD America telling its dealers that they can not sell parts direct to Australian customers
