History of the Batmobile, The Dark Knight’s Real Sidekick

Rumors are swirling about whether or not we will see Dick Grayson, aka Boy Wonder, in the next Batman film. Whether or not Robin makes an appearance, car guys know that Batman would be nothing without the Batmobile. While Robin is constantly getting himself caught and needing rescuing, Batman’s car is steady as can be.

Batman himself summed up his own appeal, at the least to the ladies, very eloquently; “It’s the car right, chicks love the car?” As you can see from the image below, some of the best Batmobiles have been based off of or at least inspired by real cars. He has driven everything from Chords, Chryslers and Cadillacs all the way to Porsches, Lamborghinis and Jaguars. The latest film iteration was a custom creation which took a more utilitarian approach to catching the bad guys.

Which of the Batmobiles is your favorite and if you were going to build your own crime fighting super car, what would you base it on. Remember, this has to be a car that’s fast, armored, climbs up walls, strikes fear in the blackened hearts of the evilest of villains and most importantly gets chicks. Before you respond, stand up. It doesn’t matter if youre on your couch or in your cubicle. Stand up, throw a towel around your shoulders, furrow your brow, take a deep breath and growl, “I’m Batman.”
