That didn't take long: the speed fiends at Hennessey Performance are already working on tuning kits that could endow the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray with as much as 1000 hp.
While there are few details so far, Hennessey does have a track record of delivering upgrade kits that extract serious horsepower from performance cars. The company promises it can supercharge the 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 engine in the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette to produce about 700 hp, and that a twin-turbocharger kit will offer anywhere from 800 to 1000 hp.
That's a lot for an engine that, as stock, cranks out 450 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque in the 2014 Corvette. Hennessey says its upgrade packages will be available for both the coupe that debuted in Detroit and the Corvette convertible arriving next week in Geneva.
Of course, there will still plenty of aftermarket parts for buyers who aren't ready for forced induction.Hennessey says it will launch cold-air intakes, exhaust systems and long-tube headers, new wheels, Brembo brake upgrades, and new suspension parts for the Corvette.
The company already sells an HPE1000 kit to upgrade previous-generation Corvettes with a 6.2-liter LS3 V-8, as well as Z06 models with a 7.0-liter V-8, to 1000 hp, courtesy of forged engine internals and two turbochargers. An upgrade package for the Corvette ZR1, called HPE750, upgrades that car's supercharger and other components to boost the engine to 750 hp.
Expect more details and prices once the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette performance parts become available later this year.
