Hennessey Drops First Teaser Pic of the Venom GT

It may be cloaked in shadows, but this is our first official look at Hennessey's new Venom GT super car.

What you see here is the Venom GT, once expected to debut at this year's Geneva motor show. The Venom GT is Hennessey's first original car, not a tuned-up production car. Though it began life as a Lotus Elise, Hennessey has stretched the frame to make it 2 feet longer and a foot wider so it can cram a twin-turbo LS9 V-8 engine in the back of it.

The tuned Corvette ZR1 V-8, now with two turbo chargers instead of a supercharger, will come in three trims offering 725 horsepower, 1000 horsepower, and 1200 horsepower -- albeit that last form is intended for track use only. With all that power going to the pavement through a six-speed manual transmission and the rear tires, Hennessey says the Venom GT will hit 60 mph in a mind-bending 2.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 262 mph. 14-inch carbon rotors, clamped by six-piston calipers in front and four-piston calibers in the rear, will haul it all back to a stop.

Although we're learning more and more regarding the Venom GT, we've yet to see it in person. Hennessey says it will announce both European and North American debut venues for the car "some point soon." Source: Hennessey
