The company starts with a basic Z4 sDrive35i, and works the majority of its tuning magic by revamping the engine controller. By optimizing the ECU and bolting on a new exhaust system, Hamann was able to coax an extra 54 horsepower from BMW’s twin-tubocharged 3.0-liter inline six. Output jumps from 306 to 360 horsepower, while torque climbs from 294 to 398 pound-feet. Since they were already within the Z4’s circuitry, Hamann conveniently decided to nix BMW’s speed governor, allowing the roadster to hit a top end of 177 mph.
Hamann showcases its work by blessing the Z4 with a unique aerodynamics package. The kit includes a new front lip spoiler with integrated LED running lights, side skirts, a modified rear fascia, and a new decklid spoiler. The kit, coupled with 1.2-inch suspension drop, gives the Z4 a longer, lower appearance than the stock car. Those who really want some visual pizzazz can also opt for unique 20-inch matte black forged aluminum wheels.
Inside, Hamann’s Z4 is largely unmodified. A new gearshift lever and custom embroidered floormats are included, but the remainder of the cockpit is exactly as BMW intended. That said, customers can fork over some extra money for a hand-crafted full leather interior.
Hamann doesn’t list prices for the complete car, but does note those matte black wheels alone will set you back €7640, or roughly $10,000. We can only imagine the expense incurred by ticking every option box -- especially the one for the leather-lined cabin.
