GM Shows Custom Chevrolet Camaros at 2009 SEMA

We’d been told this year’s SEMA show would be a veritable Camaro-fest, and after looking at the concepts General Motors is bringing to Las Vegas, we have to agree.

Arguably, the most interesting is the silver coupe modified by talk show host and comedian Jay Leno. Leno chose to base his coupe not off the V-8-powered SS, but the base six-cylinder car. A pair of Turbonetics T-3 turbochargers are bolted to the 3.6-liter V-6, giving the engine a whopping 425 hp. Understandably, the Camaro’s cooling system had to be modified for the forced-induction six, but the Leno Camaro also wears a Brembo six-piston brake system, lowered coilover suspension, and a custom front fascia and hood.

<;P class=MsoNormal>The Camaro Synergy is less a concept than it is a preview of a new color. GM claims the “Synergy Green” color will be used on a special-edition Camaro that’s due in the first half of 2010. GM also fitted the car with a number of accessories, including 21-inch wheels, a ground effects kit, rally stripes, and a high-wing rear spoiler.

<;P class=MsoNormal>According to GM, the Camaro Chroma “demonstrates how carefully selected accessories available through a Chevy dealer can create a look like nothing else.” Of course, its 21-inch wheels, “Blade” rear spoiler, and custom grille insert aren’t available at dealers quite yet, but GM says they are in the pipeline. The silver-on-white Chroma also receives rear fender vent graphics, a performance intake and headers for the stock LS3 V-8, and a short-through shifter from Hurst.

<;P class=MsoNormal>Camaro Dusk is reportedly “inspired by young, urban professionals,” and was designed to have a slight “tuner aesthetic.” Painted in Berlin Blue, the Dusk features a grille, spoiler, and braking system borrowed from an SS model, along with prototype 21-inch wheels from BBS. Chevy says the ground effects package, which is painted in a contrasting color, may eventually be offered through dealers as an accessory.
