In an understandable but nonetheless tragic move, Chevrolet will kill the 2010 Cadillac STS-V, the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt SS sedan, the 2010 Chevrolet HHR SS, the 2010 Impala SS and the 2010 Pontiac G6 GXP.
The information came to our attention when GM released its 2010 online ordering guides, which detail changes for the model year. Casually tucked in the ordering guides, GM lists the "deleted" trims.
The real tragedy among these deletions is the Cobalt SS sedan. Just when Chevrolet finally got its act together, turning a mediocre-at-best midsized sedan into a ridiculously enjoyable pocket rocket, it's forced to cancel the project. Thankfully, the Cobalt SS coupe will still be available for 2010, although we have to wonder why the coupe escaped the chopping block and not the sedan.
Others, like the Pontiac G6 GXP,will not be missed quite as much. With a face only a mother could love and a spoiler awkwardly copped from Porsche, we can't say we'll be too disappointed that no additional G6 GXPs will be cruising U.S. roads.
GM still offers high performance variants of other cars, namely the Cadillac CTS-V, Camaro SS and Corvette Z06 and ZR1. Keep your fingers crossed that the auto market recovers soon, so GM isn't forced by lagging sales to permanently abandon its performance programs -- or, even worse, by government officials.
