Geneva 2013: This Is The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

The wraps on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible (say that five times fast) won’t be pulled off for a few more days. But, as automakers frequently do, Chevrolet  released two teaser images of the soft-top C7 Corvette tonight, days before its world debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

Technically, we’re given only one view of the car – a static front-three-quarters shot – but in two flavors: one with the top stowed, and another with the top raised. There should be few surprises present, as everything from the beltline down is essentially copied straight from the 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe shown at the 2013 Detroit auto show.

Images that appeared to show a red C7 convertible popped online weeks ago, but GM denied they were official. Regardless of their provenance, those images appear to be rather close to GM’s official renderings, especially when it comes to the tonneau cover. Like the C6, the cover cascades down between the seats, but the nacelles behind each seat back appear to have a dark colored inset – a detail also visible on the previous images. We do like how the tonneau cover appears to be part of a raised section that may stretch to the end of the trunk lid, as it adds visual interest to what would have otherwise been a large, flat, and uninteresting panel.

GM won’t talk details until next week, but expect mechanical specifications to essentially mirror those of the C7 coupe. Power should still come from the new LT1 6.2-liter V-8, and provide a hearty 450 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. We don’t know what sort of weight penalty – if any – the C7 suffers as a result of its convertible transformation, as GM won’t share any additional details until the car’s official reveal.

Fortunately, you won’t have to wait long for them, as the 2014 Corvette Stingray convertible will be formally unveiled on March 5. Stay with Automobile Magazine for all the latest news surrounding the drop-top C7 and the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

They pulled too many styling cues from the Camaro for the rear fascia, and the front fascia just doesn't give the car a bold, or powerful look that a car like it should have, aim more towards a Viper than a Caddy please!!!

I hate the rear end. I hear there is an aftermarket rear bumper kit though.

Could someone please explain to me what the bit deal is about the Corvette Convertible reveal?  I mean, it's the C7 Corvette, which we've all seen A LOT over the past couple of months, with the roof gone.  I'm missing the big revelation in this event....
