Geneva 2012: Brabus Tricks Out Smart's Electric Car and Bike

German tuner Brabus will be showing off the smart Brabus electric drive and the smart Brabus ebike at the Geneva Motor Show this week. The two electric motor-powered concepts have been tweaked for more performance Smart Brabus electric drive Propulsion for the Smart Brabus Fortwo electric drive comes from an 80-horsepower version of the new Smart Fortwo electric drive’s electric motor. The motor makes 100 lb-ft of torque. Other performance enhancing modifications include a 10 mm lower ride height courtesy of the sport suspension, and a sport steering wheel with steering wheel gearshift. It also comes with a special Brabus sound module. The Smart Brabus electric drive’s black paint is offset by a vibrant green hue applied to the so-called Tridion safety cell and door mirror caps. The front grille, headlamps, 16-inch front and 17-inch rear Monoblock VII alloy wheels and Brabus Xclusive body kit are all finished in black. In keeping with Brabus' green turn, the tuner company also applied similar cosmetic touches to Smart's electric-powered "ebike." Brabus' EV bicycle features a matte black frame and fork with anodized green quick release skewers, pedals and brake calipers. The seat and hand grips are wrapped in green leather. Front brakes have four piston calipers, and the four-spoke carbon wheels are finished in matte black. Brabus also adds Sport Contact tires, weight-optimized cranks and pedals, and a carbon seatpost. The Smart Brabus ebike features a 500 watt electric motor – twice as powerful as the standard smart ebike’s electric motor. Brabus reduced the ebike’s weight by 10 percent. Top speed is rated at 28 mph. Riders can choose four levels of assist of the electric motor through the throttle grip. Brabus says both the car and the Smart ebike will be available in 12 countries by the end of the year.
