It seems Aston Martin's Rapide isn't the only sporty four-door taking to the racetrack. N.Technology has apparently been hard at work transforming the Porsche Panamera S into a full-fledged race car, and will soon enter the finished product into competition.
Although the Panamera S was designed primarily for high-speed luxury cruising, the Monaco-based race team didn't change much to ready it for the track. The naturally aspirated V-8 engine remains in the engine compartment, although its output has been bumped from 400 to 450 horsepower. The racer is still rear-wheel-drive, but Porsche's seven-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox has been eschewed in favor of a six-speed sequential manual transmission. Three-way adjustable dampers and carbon-ceramic disc brakes -- complete with 6-piston calipers and 14-inch rotors up front -- are also added to the racing Panamera.
The new body kit -- which includes a revised front fascia, front and rear splitters, rear spoiler, and flared fenders -- catches the eye, but arguably, N.Technology's biggest modification to the Panamera involved a crash diet. To strip weight from the car, the company gutted the interior, replaced many exterior body panels with carbon fiber pieces, and bolted on 18-inch magnesium wheels. According to the engineering firm, the car tips the scales at 2904 pounds, 1056 pounds lighter than a bone-stock Panamera S.
N.Technology has reportedly begun testing the car, putting Joao Barbosa -- the DP-class winner at the 2010 24 Hours of Daytona -- behind the wheel. Should all go well, the car will make its race debut next weekend at the Superstars Series at the Hockenheimring in Germany.
