Four Wheeler Names 2013 Ram 1500 Pickup Truck of the Year

Few other vehicle segments are as competitive as fullsize trucks, the only other ones coming to mind as being as cutthroat being the compact SUV and midsize sedan markets. So winning a prestigious and coveted award by a recognized truck enthusiast publication is cause for celebration. The champagne corks are probably flying in Auburn Hills, with the 2013 Ram 1500 winning its second major award of the year from Four Wheeler magazine as its 2013 Pickup Truck of the Year, having earlier been named Motor Trend's 2013 Truck of the Year. This is the fifth time a Ram model has won the Pickup Truck of the Year award in the last 10 years.

The oldest continuously-published off-road magazine, dating back to 1962, prides itself on the rigorous testing it subjects vehicles to in contention for the award. The 2013 model year represented a significant redesign for the Ram 1500, including the long-awaited addition of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 as the base engine, mated to a new eight-speed automatic. The Ram 1500 also features advanced technologies for the fullsize truck segment such as available air suspension, active grille shutters, and a stop-start system.

The Pickup Truck of the Year testing takes place over five days and 1000 miles in varied conditions from congested urban stop-and-go driving to technical off-road trails. Vehicles are judged on the basis of performance, comfort, and design.
