Ford Escape Rules June Compact Crossover Sales

June was a tough month for the Honda CR-V, as the Japanese CUV couldn't keep up to the Ford Escape. The Escape sold 28,694 units, leaving the CR-V in second yet again with 26,562 units.

Locked in third is the Chevrolet Equinox with 23,645 units, while Toyota's RAV4 couldn't quite catch up with 20,540 units, even with the new model on sale. The mid-pack finishers remain in the usual order, with the Nissan Rogue in fifth, Subaru Forester in sixth, and the GMC Terrain in seventh, with 15,518, 10,170, and 8059 units sold, respectively.

It's a tight race between the eighth-place Mazda CX-5 and Jeep Patriot, as the zoom-zoom CUV finished ahead by less than 200 units, though it fell behind the Patriot in year-to-date sales, but not by much. Rounding out the top 10 is the Jeep Compass with 5034 units, and even when combining it with Patriot sales, their joint effort of 11,724 units still don't even match up to the five best-sellers' numbers.

Subaru's lifted Impreza, the XV Crosstrek, is doing well compared to other CUVs on the market much longer,  such as the Hyundai Tucson (3800 units), Kia Sportage (2450 units). Although many have knocked the Nissan Juke for being ugly, 3360 new owners in June didn't think it was. It's no surprise the more expensive  Mini Countryman/Paceman finished at the bottom with 2399 units. Source: The automakers
