Ford Escape Retakes Lead From Honda CR-V in September Sales

Although the Honda CR-V dominated the charts the past two months, the Ford Escape came back strong in September, eclipsing the Honda CR-V's 21,439 units sold with 22,607 Ford Escape crossovers moved off the lot. Year-to-date sales for the two CUVs are only separated by about 800 units.

While those two have been battling throughout most of the year, the Toyota RAV4 knocked the Chevrolet Equinox out of its long-standing third spot in September, though only by 485 units. The Chevrolet Equinox should also be worried about the fifth-place Nissan Rogue as well, as the new sleeker model plus sales of the Rogue Select could help it surpass the American crossover. In sixth is the Subaru Forester, which is the last of the crossovers to hit above the 10,000-unit mark, with 10,620 Subies sold. The seventh-place GMC Terrain lagged behind the Forester, with 7147 units, with the Mazda CX-5 not far behind at 6280 units. Completing the top 10 best-sellers are the Jeep Patriot and Compass, separated by 1566 units. September sales of the two Jeeps fall short of the number of Foresters sold.

The Subaru XV Crosstrek once again finishes in eleventh place on our chart. Behind the Subaru is the Hyundai Tucson and Nissan Juke. The Volkswagen Tiguan had a good month, selling more than the Kia Sportage and Mini Countryman/Paceman in September.
