Ford Builds Aircraft inspired 2009 Mustang AV8R for Charity

2009 Ford Mustang Av8r

We're aware of the spiritual connection between the pony car and the P-51 Mustang, but the 2009 Ford Mustang AV8R, a one-off special built for charity, takes the warbird lineage to a new level.

Starting with a 2009 Mustang GT Glass Roof, the AV8R adds anodized silver paint and a blacked-out hood and trunk.; Ford has added a supercharger to the 4.6-liter SOHC V-8 (boosting output to 400 hp) and a Ford Racing suspension kit, which includes modified springs, shocks, anti-roll bars and a strut tower brace.

Inside, the AV8R's leather seats are trimmed like vintage bomber jackets, while the dashboard trim, stolen from the Bullitt Mustang, is finished with a turned-aluminum pattern.

The Mustang AV8R will be auctioned at this weekend's AirVenture show, held by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.; Proceeds from the AV8R's sale go to the EAA's Group of Eagles program, which provides scholarships to students pursuing careers in aviation.
