After enjoying time on TV and computer monitor screens for years, the Need for Speed video game franchise will finally land on the silver screen. Electronic Arts, the company that publishes the game, recently inked a deal with DreamWorks Studio to produce a film version of the popular racing title.
DreamWorks is expected to start work on the film sometime next year. So what can you expect when the movie reaches theaters in 2014? Neither company has released details yet, but the press release promises a “fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the ‘70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise.”
Additionally, the film will focus on the franchise as a whole as opposed to concentrating on a specific title such as the most recent Need for Speed: The Run. For those who have yet to try out The Run, the game focuses on a driver racing from San Francisco to New York City in order to escape trouble with the mob. We don’t know about you, but that plotline sounds Hollywood-worthy to us.
The script was developed by brothers George and John Gatins, and the movie will be directed by Scott Waugh. If there’s a specific car you feel needs to be included in the movie, then head over to Need for Speed’s Facebook page and sound off.
