The Audi R8 LMS (previously called the R8 GT3) is a purpose built race car homologated for the GT3 racing classification. Audi Sport Italia became the first team to take delivery of a competition car.
Audi Sport Italia took delivery of the first of twelve GT3 sports cars set to be delivered to various teams in the coming weeks. The symbolic handover of the Audi R8 LMS (bearing chassis number 101) took place on Tuesday. Audi Sport Italia Team Manager, Emilio Radaelli, accepted the R8 LMS from Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich.
Five other teams, including ABT Sportsline, Argo Racing, ORECA, Phoenix Racing, and Team Rosberg, will also campaign the V-10 monster in the GT3 series.
The R8 LMS first hits the track on April 4th, when it’s scheduled to compete in the Nürburgring long distance championship. The first GT3 competitions commence with the French GT Championship, which begins on April 10th in Nogaro, France.
