If you’ve been following the story of the Hyundai Veloster, you may recall that we reported last June that the car would go racing. Today, Hyundai has released the first image of its new rally car.
The cryptic email showed up this morning with nearly no information. The picture is titled “Rallycar” and Hyundai’s note simply read:
“See the landing at 9:45 a.m. Central Time on February 9 on www.youtube.com/user/hmausa. Additional information about this car will be revealed at a Chicago Auto Show press conference at the same time.”
You’re in luck, though, because we know a bit more about this car than Hyundai is letting on. Look closely at the car in the image and you can see that the rally-prepped Veloster is sporting a windshield banner that reads “US Rallycross,” so we know what series the car will compete in, and we’ve also reported that it will likely be going to the X Games. We can also see that it uses suspension parts from HKS and wheels from HRE. Red Bull sponsorship adorns the side which, along with our initial report last June, indicates that the car will likely be piloted by Hyundai racer extraordinaire Rhys Millen.
The rest we’ll learn next week at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, so be sure to check in at Automobilemag.com all week for our complete show coverage.
