At a Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, the first example of the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427 convertible was auctioned for $600,000. The car’s VIN ends in 001, and it is the first model to be sold to the public before the 2013 Corvettes hit dealerships this summer.
The 427 Convertible Collector Edition is a special version of the 2013 Corvette designed as a tribute to the car’s C6 generation -- which will soon come to a close when the 2014 Corvette launches next year. The drop-top Corvette packs the 505-hp, 7.0-liter V-8 engine from the Z06 coupe model, and is fitted only with a six-speed manual transmission. Other upgrades over a regular Corvette convertible include Magnetic Selective Ride Control, carbon-fiber hood and front fenders, and staggered wheels (19 inches front, 20 inches rear) wearing sticky Michelin PS2 tires.
Chevrolet calls the 427 convertible, “the fastest and most capable convertible in Corvette’s history.” The company says the car should be able to hit 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds, before reaching a top speed of around 190 mph. Corvette C6 fans can also get their hands on a new 60th Anniversary Package, available on any version of 2013 Corvette. The upgrade pack includes unique paint and leather upholstery, anniversary badges, and other visual tweaks.
