Ferrari Unveils Evoluzione Package for 599XX with More Power, Active Aerodynamics

The Ferrari 599XX may have already lapped the Nürburgring in less than seven minutes, but that doesn’t mean Maranello is done tweaking its race machine. The new Evoluzione package for the 599XX adds more power and active aerodynamics, all in the name of quicker lap times.

New side-exit exhausts help the 6.0-liter V-12 engine now produces 750 hp at 9000 rpm and 516 lb-ft of torque. Ferrari also revised the gear ratios to improve acceleration. The car has a new type of Pirelli tire and is said to be 77 pounds lighter than before, though Ferrari doesn’t specify how the weight loss was achieved.

The most interesting new technology is an active rear wing inspired by Formula 1 technologies. The wing has two flaps whose angle of attack can be adjusted automatically by the 599XX’s computers. Depending on speed, steering input, lateral acceleration, and a host of other variables, the wing is automatically adjusted for the optimum amount of downforce. At 124 mph, the new active rear wing can provide between 726 and 968 pounds of downforce, compared to just 616 pounds of downforce at 124 mph with the prior fixed wing.

There’s no word yet on how much quicker the changes will make the 599XX around Germany’s famed Nordschleife, but we imagine Ferrari is planning to put the car to the test as soon as the weather cooperates. The company has revealed that the Evoluzione is one second quicker around Ferrari’s Maranello test track than the prior 599XX.
