Feature Flicks: Audi Shows Off RS4 Avant and RS Q3

#Audi, #RS4

One of them is a wagon, the other a compact crossover. One of them is on the track, the other one is flying through the snow. Both are RS-spec Audis, and both are on camera in today’s Feature Flicks.

The first of the two videos shows Audi’s RS4 Avant as it laps the Red Bull Ring in Austria. It’s pretty typical B-roll fare, with plenty of shots of the V-8 wagon accelerating, slowing down, and flying around the track. Listen closely and you can hear the Audi's 4.2-liter V-8 (which makes 450 hp and 317 lb-ft) engine roar.

If natural aspiration isn’t really your thing, and you’d prefer to watch an Audi act like a rally car, we have another video of the new RS Q3 as it races up a snowy mountain pass. And we do mean “races,” because it looks like the RS Q3 competes against a dogsled to see which method of transportation is quicker in the snow. Considering that the RS Q3 has a 2.5-liter turbocharged I-5 engine making 306 hp, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and Quattro all-wheel drive, it’s not all that surprising that four wheels beats four paws.

Take a good, long look at both of these, because neither of the RennSport Audis you see here have been earmarked for the United States market (even though we’ve caught an RS4 Avant on American soil before). Pity.

Why can't they ditch the automatic and put in a real manual trans? Nice looking car otherwise.

What Chris said - It all sounds good, except for the unnecessary ground clearance and higher center of gravity.

I love audi's and have done so since the late 90's, but I also have a small gripe with them. I understand and am wholeheartedly enthusiastic about Audi's commitment to making AWD performance cars, (after all its a niche that Audi basically created) but my gripe has to do with the fact that AWD always adds 300 extra pounds to a cars curb weight. I myself fancy the high quality exterior/interior designs of Audi, but prefer the lighter nimbler more athletic character of the M3. If Audi were to introduce a RWD option to the S4, they might be able to finally put BMW in its place.

If they drop it 3 inches and call it a wagon, it sounds great.

Performance would be great. Price would be nuts
