Feature Flick: VW Scirocco on Scirocco Drag Race on Head 2 Head

It's old versus new on this week's episode of Head 2 Head. Host Jason Cammisa goes to Germany to see if the original Volkswagen Scirocco 16V is anywhere near as good as the current European-only Scirocco.

After a brief history lesson on the GTI-based Scirocco, Cammisa drives the two V-dub sports coupes back to back. The 2012 Scirocco that Cammisa is driving around Germany is powered by a 1.4-liter twincharged (turbo and supercharged) I-4 that produces 160 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. Though it's available with VW's DSG six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, Cammisa's tester came with an old-school six-speed manual.

The original U.S.-spec Scirocco was powered by a 1.8-liter, 123-hp I-4. The '87 Scirocco that Cammisa brought to Germany has had its engine swapped out and is instead powered by a 2.0-liter I-4 making 175 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque and mated to a five-speed manual – the only transmission available.

After some driving back and forth on German B-roads, Cammisa heads to an airfield for a drag race between the old and new Volkswagen Scirocco. Which will win? Watch the latest episode of Head 2 Head below to find out.
