Two sons reunited their father with his 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS that he sold back in the 1980s. Herb Younger was the original owner of the car that was part of more than two decades of family memories.
Herb sold the car to help pay for his children’s education. Five years ago, his sons decided to reunite their father with his long-lost car. After chasing the serial number across, several states they finally found the car for sale in Canada. After verifying the number with the dealer, the sons purchased the car over the phone.
“It’s not just a car. It’s all the memories and feelings,” said Jared Younger, in a press release. “It brings all that back.”
Chevrolet and Herb’s sons, Jared and Derrick, conspired with Goodby, Silverstein & Partners to pose as a film crew documenting three generations of an American family. They were able to catch Herb on tape when his car pulled up while he was playing with his grandchildren at the park.
GM invited Herb Younger, his two sons and his Impala SS to join the new Spark mini-car and Camaro ZL1 convertible on stage at the 2011 Los Angeles International Auto Show to promote Chevrolet as more than just a car.
“The moment when he realizes his car has come back to him is priceless, and is a prime example of the emotional connection many people have with their Chevys,” Chris Perry, vice president, Global Chevrolet Marketing and Strategy, said in a press release. “The story is moving because it's true – and there's no better way to prove that Chevy runs deep.”
