Feature Flick: Sesame Street’s Bert and Ernie Record Their Voices for TomTom

Having brought you the voices of Mr. T, Yoda, and Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson, GPS navigation company TomTom has released a new package featuring the voices of two Sesame Street characters. In this latest ad, you can watch bed-sharing best buds Bert and Ernie recording their voices in an attempt to guide you to your destination.

Shot like a behind-the-scenes video, this ad takes you into the recording studio as the two star puppets lay down their voice tracks. Ernie is first up at the mic, and takes his rubber ducky with him into the sound booth. Requiring motivation, Ernie asks Bert to come in and play the part of the driver while he navigates from the imaginary passenger seat. After several takes, and a trip through hyperspace for Bert, Ernie’s portion of the recording session is finished. The characters lend charm and humor to the ad, and can make you chuckle no matter how old you are.

The voice package was developed with the help of Sesame Workshop and Locutio Voice Technologies, and is available now for all compatible TomTom devices. There’s currently no word on whether other Sesame Street characters’ voices will be released, though more could be on the way at some point. But as much as we like talking puppets, we’re not sure how much of Elmo’s shrill, squeaky voice we could take in the car.
