If you were a fan of the 1960's cartoon "Wacky Races," then you're in for a treat. Peugeot's Brazilian agency, Y&R Brasil, created this great ad for the new 2013 Peugeot 208 racing along with the kooky cars from the classic cartoon.
The commercial opens with a white 208 stopped at a traffic light. Pulling up next to the compact hatchback is none other than a real-life version of The Ant Hill Mob in the Bulletproof Bomb, straight out of the mobster-era 1920s. The camera pans around the traffic light, and almost the entire "Wacky Races" crew has arrived: The Slag Brothers in the Bouldermobile, The Gruesome Twosome in the Creepy Coupe, Sergeant Blast and Private Meekly in the Army Surplus Special, Luke and Blubber Bear in the Arkansas Chuggabug, Peter Perfect in the Turbo Terrific, and the glamorous Penelope Pitstop in the Compact Pussycat.
Once the light turns green, the Wacky Racers take chase on the Peugeot, with our driver able to narrowly avoid attempts by The Ant Hill Mob, The Red Max (in the Crimson Haybailer), and Dick Dastardly and Muttley (in the Mean Machine) from thwarting his trek across town. However, one Wacky Racer can't keep him from stopping: the buxom Penelope Pitstop has, unsurprisingly, broken down, and our hero gives her a lift…and, almost, Muttley, too.
Sadly, we won't be getting the Peugeot 208 on our shores, but Brazilian buyers – where the commercial will most likely air – can choose from 1.5- or 1.6-liter I-4 engines and automatic or manual transmissions.
