Feature Flick: Nissan Ad Points Out It Has Cars and Honda Doesn't

Nissan is not shy about poking fun of its competitors. Just look back a few months ago at its ad calling the Chevy Volt out on its gas-powered range-extender. Nissan is back at it again, but this time it’s giving Honda a hard time for its supply-related issues.

The first commercial spot features a transport truck filled to the gills with Nissans as it drives through some of our nation’s most scenic locales and past a Honda dealership with a salesperson standing out front who appears frustrated. The narrator states that, “Unlike some car companies, Nissan is running at 100 percent. Which means the most innovative cars are also the most available cars.” We won’t spoil the second commercial, but its theme is similar to the first.

But what about these ads targeting Honda? Back in January we reported that Nissan replaced Honda as Japan’s second-best global seller. Honda was dealt a second blow by the Japanese disaster in March that crippled many of its plants, more so than Nissan. Last month’s sales figures shows the contrast of how the disaster has affected both companies – Honda was down 25.7 percent compared to July 2010, while Nissan enjoyed an uptick of 6.7 percent. With that said, do you think Nissan’s newest commercials are fair game or a cheap shot?

This is terribly unsympathetic on Nissan's part. The earthquake that impaired Honda was a major disaster and not something to be smug about. I am disappointed in Nissan. Their cars are better than their marketing.
