Feature Flick: McLaren P1 Shaped by Air

To illustrate the McLaren P1’s advanced aerodynamics, the automaker shows raw materials being designed by air. Metal and carbon fiber take shape before the excess material falls away to reveal the supercar
Once the finished product emerges from the wind tunnel, the flow of air is simulated as it travels over, around, and through the P1 (including its active rear spoiler). The P1’s plug-in electric hybrid powertrain’s sound is also simulated. The P1 is powered by a 727-hp, 531 lb-ft twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8 mated with at 176-hp, 191 lb-ft electric motor. Combined system output is rated at 903 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.
By using Formula 1 technology, McLaren claims the P1 is the most aerodynamically advanced car in the world. The video is the first of two that will highlight the McLaren P1 supercar’s story. McLaren has also released new photos of the P1 supercar; the images are in the gallery below.
