Feature Flick: Mazda Teases the 2014 6 Sedan, Again

Mazda's all-new 6 sedan isn't due for until 2014 model year, but that hasn't stopped the Japanese automaker from releasing another video teasing the new sedan.

This time around, we get to see the creases and lines on the front quarter panel, as well as the lower portion of the a-pillar and front window. We can't see much else during the 19-second video, but what little we do see looks pretty good.

Mazda maintains (in the video's notes) that the film is not of the Takeri concept we've already seen, but suggests that there will be very few differences between the Takeri and the 2014 Mazda6. Considering that the Takeri's reception has been pretty good so far, it's probably a good move.

A necessary one at that: sales of the current Mazda6 have picked up in recent months--it sold 25,369 units in the first half of 2012, up 62.9 percent from the same period in 2011, and it sold about 36,000 units per year in 2010 and 2011--but it puts the 6 firmly at the bottom of the mid-size-sedan heap in terms of sales. To put those numbers in perspective, Toyota generally sells more Camrys in one month than Mazda does the 6 all year.

The production-spec 2014 6 will debut at the Paris Motor Show this fall, with at least one Skyactiv engine (probably the 2.0-liter, 155-hp unit from the CX-5 and Mazda3) and a choice of either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Expect another handful of teaser videos before then, and let us know what you think about this one in the comments below.

Allow me to get a 6-speed manual in a nice trim level and put in a turbo 4 and I'll give you my credit card # now for a deposit. Please don't be an also-ran like the current 6. I had a previous-gen and loved it. When I went to shop the new one, I was shocked that I couldn't get a manual transmission in anything but a base model. The up-trim model still felt cheaper than my current 6. Little things like the dome light showed cost cutting. My 6 had a rear light with individual reading lights, the new one just had a plain white dome light. Sounds silly I know, but these little things turned me off because the new car felt like a downgrade.
