AMG Black Series cars are above and beyond the already potent AMG models and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series may be the highest-performing model yet. In this Feature Flick, Motor Trend’s Frank Markus laps the SLS AMG Black Series and SLS AMG Electric Drive at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France.
More than just a power upgrade (from 563 hp increased to 622 hp), AMG focuses on the chassis, aerodynamics, and reduced weight reduction for a balance approach to performance. After lapping the Circuit Paul Ricard, Markus is impressed with the higher limits of the SLS AMG Black Series compared to the base SLS AMG and SLS AMG GT. With 740 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, the soon-to-be-released SLS AMG Electric Drive is the most powerful electric vehicle to date. The electric motor drives al four wheels through a gear-reduction motor. Despite a 1000-pound weigh increase, Mercedes claims that 0-60 mph arrives in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph.
Check out the video below to see Markus’ conclusions on the track-oriented SLS AMG Black Series and the heavier, yet more powerful eco-friendly SLS AMG Electric Drive.
