Ken Gushi might be more excited than most to get behind the wheel of the 2013 Scion FR-S. Gushi currently races in Formula Drift in a rear-drive, V-8-powered Scion tC—not exactly the Scion his fans can head into the showroom and buy. The FR-S, on the other hand, will be arriving in dealerships before long. To get a taste of what drifting the 2013 FR-S is going to be like, Gushi headed to Sodegaura Forest Raceway in Japan for the media debut of Scion’s new sports car and, as one would expect from a drifter, he got a bit sideways.
The two videos of Gushi’s lap around Sodegaura Forest Raceway provide different angles of the same lap. The first video features multiple angles of the FR-S drifting around the course, including some fantastic shots of the front tire rolling over on itself as Gushi gets squirrelly.
The second video is the raw in-car footage of Gushi’s drift lap in the Scion FR-S, and allows us to check out Gushi’s amazing car control skills and see just how he gets the rear end of the FR-S out by working the handbrake and clutch.
Thankfully, both videos lack backing tracks so turn it up and enjoy the boxer rumble and tire-smoking theatrics.
