Baltimore’s first IndyCar race got off to a dramatic start when two cars collided at high speeds during the warm-up session on Sunday. As seen in this video, driver Tony Kannan’s car clipped that of Helio Castroneves and briefly went airborne.
This dramatic collision happened as both drivers were approaching the track’s first corner at approximately 180 mph. Castroneves braked hard for the turn, but Kannan discovered his car’s brakes had failed. He swerved to try to avoid hitting Castroneves, but ended up clipping the car and briefly sending his own car flying into the air.
Fortunately, both drivers escaped the incident unharmed and were able to compete in the race later that day. Castroneves finished the race in 17th position and Kannan finished in 3rd place. Take a look at the in-car video below.
